Total Engulfment

A saturation dynamic where the group becomes your whole world—time, identity, language, relationships, and meaning.
• You spend most of your time in group activities, service, or monitored community life.
• You replace personal goals with group goals, and your identity narrows around the role.
• You lose private space for reflection because everything becomes “for the mission.”
Potential clinical implications (especially in high control settings)
• Burnout, emotional exhaustion, and loss of personal identity outside the group role.
• Increased dependency and fear of exit due to lack of outside supports.
• Post-exit “blankness” or grief: not knowing who you are without the system.
