Belief Perseverance

A cognitive bias where you keep believing something even after the evidence against it becomes strong or clear.
• You reinterpret disconfirming facts so the belief can stay intact.
• You remember supportive stories vividly and dismiss contradictory information as “exceptions.”
• You double down after a failed prediction because admitting error feels too costly.

Potential clinical implications (especially in high control settings)

• Prolonged attachment to harmful systems because “leaving” would force painful re-evaluation.
• Shame, confusion, or grief when reality repeatedly contradicts the narrative.
• Polarization: increased rigidity and distrust of outsiders who present evidence.
