The Wheel contains 8 spokes. 

  • Using Intimidation

  • Using Emotional Abuse

  • Using Isolation

  • Minimizing, Denying and Blaming

  • Using Children

  • Using Male Privilege

  • Using Economic Abuse

  • Using Coercion and Threats

In a religious setting, this can look like:

  • Using scripture to justify abuse

  • Religious isolation

  • Spiritual shaming

  • Controlling reproduction

  • Manipulation by religious leaders

Potential clinical implications (especially in high control settings)

  • Abusive relational patterns may go unrecognized.

  • Decision-making capacity may feel compromised or inaccessible.

  • Fear of independence or speaking out may prevent seeking help.
